Let’s get messy!
It’s finally summertime! That means it’s time to relax, swim, play and get outside to enjoy the weather.
We made some homemade puff paints for outdoor play and it was a huge success! The kids loved it and they were able to mix the paints on their own. An added plus for them as they grow older and love a little independence and responsibility. They also discovered this paint is great for decorating rocks too! We opted to use it in our dirt driveway and it worked great.
So, are you ready for the recipe yet?
It’s one part water to one part flour
A few drops of food coloring (to the desired color)
1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap
Mix well until smooth. Pour paint into squeeze bottles. Store in a cool place, sealed and use within two days.
We measured just over 1 cup of water to 1 heaping cup of flour and this filled TWO of our squirt bottles. That means you’ll need to study up on the color wheel to get the most out of your paint and the largest variety of colors! So, if we made a batch of red, we would fill one bottle with the red, then add a few drops of blue to the left over paint to make purple. And so on. It was a fun lesson on colors too. Be aware if you have any wheat allergies or pets that might think that the paint is tasty. The soap made it so our dog (and insects) weren’t interested in eating it!
Enjoy and happy creating!
God Bless!
